School Choice Counts - WA Launch

This week, AISWA proudly launched the WA chapter of the national School Choice Counts campaign, led by Independent Schools Australia (ISA). The campaign advocates to protect families' choice and calls for stable, predictable federal funding to keep school fees affordable.

As the representative body for over 160 WA schools, AISWA is reinforcing its call for the needs of every child—no matter their education sector—to be at the forefront of decision-making, programs, and funding.

Chris Massey, AISWA Executive Director, emphasised the importance of collaboration and advocacy. “The Western Australian Independent sector is fortunate to have a solid working relationship with the WA Government. Notwithstanding the majority of the funding for non-government schools comes from the Federal Government, and we remain focused on advancing the interests of the Independent sector at the national level".

The launch event was held at St Stephen’s School, where Principal Donella Beare spoke about the challenges Independent schools face, and ISA CEO Graham Catt highlighted the sacrifices many families make to support their children’s education. We also heard from a St Stephen’s student, who shared their personal education journey.

In the afternoon it was great to see so many school leaders and advocates come together from the Curtin electorate. We welcomed Ms Kate Chaney MP, Federal Member for Curtin, Mr Tom White, Liberal candidate for Curtin and Senator Matt O’Sullivan. With Curtin set to be a key electoral battleground at the upcoming Federal Election, their presence underscored the importance of advocating for independent education.
