Wonderful Spirit

At Spirit Of Play Community School in Denmark, Noongar language and culture are woven through all learning activities.

"Our school is committed to actively integrating Noongar language, storylines and cultural awareness through everyday experiences with our children" say teachers Regi Peppin and Sarah Pozzi. This commitment is demonstrated in the resources and decoration of the school, in activities such as the Walkabout and Earth-Angel programs and in the incorporation of Noongar language in the daily life of the school.

Noongar Elder Mr Joe Williams is at the heart of Noongar language and culture learning at Spirit of Play Community School, which provides a playgoup and schooling for children in Kindergarten Pre-primary and Year 1. The range and variety of Noongar language and cultural experiences is evident in the video The Wonder of Woonya (below) as is the joy and creativity that suffuses this small community school.
