Deputy Principal - Talkabout Program

Description

TSH (formerly Telethon Speech & Hearing) is a proud Western Australian success story.  The only one of its kind in Australia, TSH brings together a range of interconnected services for children with hearing loss and/or language difficulties to support them and their families.

We are a not-for-profit organisation, registered charity, independent school and NDIS provider that has supported children and their families since 1966.

Unique in our approach, TSH provides a range of diagnostic, therapeutic and education services to assist children to hear, communicate, connect and learn.

We are currently seeking an experienced and values focused Deputy Principal to provide strategic leadership, operational direction and continuous school improvement within our highly regarded Talkabout Program.

The role of Deputy Principal at TSH is like no other educational leadership role in Western Australia, if not Australia, that’s because TSH is a school like no other.  As the only independent school with a Special School status in WA, TSH delivers the leading educational programs for children with hearing loss, or children with speech or languages delays or disorders.

Reporting to the Principal, the key focus of the role is to ensure that children and families attending our Talkabout Program are provided with a holistic, outcomes driven, family centred service aligning education with allied health support and intervention.

Our Talkabout Program is a specialised early intervention program for children with speech and language difficulties that provides a language-rich environment and approach to supporting children and their families. The Program prides itself on its family centred, outcomes driven, multi-disciplinary team approach. The program engages a range of early childhood professionals including teachers, psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, audiologists and education assistants.

The program currently supports 141 students, prominently centralised in Wembley, with an off-site program in the south eastern suburbs of Perth.

The Program focuses on three main areas:

  1. Talkabout (School aged) – A specialised early intervention program for children aged 4 and 5 with speech and language difficulties. The program provides school-based, curriculum framework compliant, early childhood education that children attend on a part time basis as well as being enrolled in their local mainstream Kindergarten or Pre-primary program
  2. Talkabout (Playgroups) – A therapy focused program for 2 and 3 years olds with a language difficulties or disorders. Parents/carers attend the session with their children - with parent education and support at the centre of the program. This program is overseen by a Playgroups Coordinator.
  3. Literacy Support Groups – Small group literacy and oral/written language intervention for school aged children in Years 1 to 3 with a focus on the programs Sounds-Write and Talk for Writing.

To be successful at TSH, you will need the skills, approach and educational leadership background that not only sets you apart but aligns with our service delivery and future.

We are unwavering about our values and our ability to create an inclusive environment that recognises every person’s unique talent.  Your key strength will, therefore, be your ability to nurture and uphold our supportive, values driven, child safe and family-centred environment.

Managerial experience in early years education, with a strong literacy focus and an understanding of sound pedagogical approaches is highly desirable.
