Description

This 14 hour course teaches adults how to assist adolescents who are experiencing a mental health crisis or developing a mental health problem.

The course is suitable for adults working with adolescents (those aged between 12 and 18 years), however, it can also be relevant for those helping people who are a little younger or older.

Course Content

Participants will learn about adolescent development and the signs and symptoms of these mental health problems, where and how to get help and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.

NOTES: 

Who should attend MHFA training?

Ideally, school staff who

  • Regularly work with young people of this age group (ages 12-18)

  • Provide elements of pastoral care and support

  • Have expressed interest in attending this training

Health and safety precautions are important considerations for the AISWA MHFA trainers and for those who attend the training. However, these workshops are not designed as a therapy or support group. There is a risk that the information or discussions from these workshops can trigger a strong emotional reaction. Please consider this before choosing to attend the training
