Description
This session is only available to participants who have engaged with the previous two 2025 sessions: 19 March and 11 June.
This session offers for all participants from the Oral Language workshops (PK-Year 2) sessions earlier this year with the opportunity to come together with a registered speech pathologist to critically reflect on the use of the Oral Language Resource Kit and its effectiveness. This workshop will also offer the opportunity for educators to ask questions, share ideas with each other across different contexts and build our collective language and literacy ‘toolkit’. Through using the EYLF Practice: holistic approaches, interconnected and integrated approaches we aim to uphold the joy and engagement in oral language experiences at school and beyond.
This full day T.A.L.K. Workshop: Enhancing Oral Language and Pre-Literacy Skills will involve:
T - Tuning-in: Tuning-in to children's specific language needs in the early childhood classroom. Harnessing children's emerging interests and abilities to curate rich and meaningful experiences for language acquisition. We will also be sharing observational methods to help identify children's language needs in the context of the EC classroom.
A - Advancing: Advancing our application of effective strategies to support children's oral language and pre-literacy development. We will be exploring the power of music and movement in the development of speech sounds, creating highly engaging mat sessions with interactive games and activities to engage all language learners. We will be demonstrating dialogic storytelling with props and puppets to enhance children's vocabulary, knowledge, and executive functioning.
L - Learning Environments: Creating inclusive learning environments that foster rich language and literacy experiences EVERYWHERE. Building on socio-cultural theory, we will be examining how to use our learning centres such as role play to enhance educator and peer interactions and sustained shared conversations.
K - Knowledge and Skills: Building strong partnerships with families in the promotion of early oral language and literacy skills. Experimenting with various Literacy Backpacks to use in our own settings and building resources to share with families.
The day will include lots of opportunity for shared reflection through high-quality play experiences and take-home resources to share in your school.
Part of this session will be facilitated by a registered speech pathologist who will provide tips, insights, and resources tailored to your school’s needs and context.
Join us to further enhance your understanding and application of oral language strategies in the classroom!
