Description
Formerly known as Early Numeracy Interview The Mathematics Assessment Interview (MAI) is a diagnostic assessment tool which is firmly based on research. This tool was initially developed as part of the Early Numeracy Research Project in Victoria and has since been refined through the ‘Bridging the Numeracy Gap’ Pilot Project; a joint project between Victorian and Western Australian schools. The interview consists of a series of hands-on assessment tasks where students demonstrate mathematical understanding and preferred strategies for solving increasingly complex tasks. This assessment tool is used by teachers in a one-on-one interview situation to determine students’ existing mathematical knowledge in relation to framework of growth points. Teachers are provided with suggestions and activities for moving their children towards the next Growth Point. The Interview can be used across all primary classes with an emphasis on the early year’s age group. During the workshop we will delve into the background of the Interview, the Interview questions, the coding, the equipment used, the allocation of children to Growth Points and activities to develop further understanding. *There is no requirement for previous experience with the MAI and all necessary materials will be provided.Terms & Conditions
