Description

This session will look at;

*  Understanding giftedness and talent; what the terms mean; levels and types of giftedness. 
*  Gagne's Differentiated model that recognises giftedness as a broad concept that encompasses a range of abilities.  
*  Cognitive and affective characteristics of gifted and talented students
*  Identification of Gifted students
*  A range of practical identification procedures
*  Strategies which may support the Gifted students within a mainstream classroom

Gifted Awareness Week Australia was founded by the Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented (AAEGT) to raise awareness of the identification, support and learning needs of gifted children and to celebrate the dedication of individuals and educational bodies who are making a difference in the lives of gifted children and their families. Gifted Awareness Week (GAW) 2018 will be held from the 18th to 24th of March and is centred on the national theme Acceptance: Diversity & Equity.

Rebecca Delaney is an Inclusive Consultant for AISWA. Her expertise in Special and Inclusive Education has spanned over twenty five years both in the United Kingdom and Australia. Working in a variety of roles such as a specialist support assistant, teacher, tutor and Head of Department she has gained valuable training and knowledge, working alongside other professionals in Special Education. She has also experience in the field of Gifted Education and Early Childhood and has utilised this in a variety of different contexts in her career.
