Description
The AISWA Early Career Teacher program is designed to support and develop educators who are in the early stages of their teaching careers. This scoped and sequenced program provides early career teachers with the necessary training, mentorship, and support to assist them in being effective and successful practitioners in the classroom, as well as active contributors to their school context.
This 2-day course is offered twice during the year, with Semester One and Semester Two intakes following the same program over two consecutive days.
Outcomes
Professional Knowledge:
Participants will enhance their understanding of curriculum design, pedagogical strategies, and classroom management, enabling them to tailor learning experiences to meet the diverse needs of their students.
Professional Practice:
Educators will apply reflective practices to refine their teaching approaches, implement effective strategies for creating inclusive and safe learning environments, and develop professional portfolios aligned with AITSL standards.
Professional Engagement:
Teachers will strengthen their capacity to collaborate with colleagues, engage with parents and carers, and contribute to their school communities while aligning their professional growth with the AITSL standards.

Meika Pfeiffer-Gough is the Leadership and Teaching Excellence Manager at AISWA, part of the Curriculum and School Improvement Directorate. With 19 years of experience as a teacher and leader across diverse PK-12 educational settings, Meika is committed to promoting excellence in teaching and leadership. She highlights the importance of emotional intelligence and relational trust in building strong, respectful connections within school communities, recognizing these as essential for creating positive learning environments and inspiring growth. Passionate about leadership development, Meika works to empower confident, reflective leaders who drive collective success.
Karen LeRaye (AISWA Staff)
Consultant | Leadership And Teaching Excellence

Karen LeRaye has worked as an Educational Consultant at AISWA since 2016. Her background is in Arts education where she taught Drama and Dance in both primary and secondary contexts, and she has worked to support educators in independent schools with planning and delivering high-quality Arts programs. Beyond her Arts focus, Karen collaborates with educators across all learning areas to enhance their teaching practice and pedagogical approach. Her work centres on building teacher capacity to enhance student outcomes. As a dedicated education professional, Karen remains committed to fostering teaching excellence and supporting educators in their professional growth journey.
