AICD Online Governance Foundations for Not-For-Profit Directors of Independent Schools

AISWA is proud to present the online AICD Governance Foundations course for Not-For-Profit Directors of Independent Schools. This 1.5-day online course is open exclusively to Governing Board Members and Principals of AISWA schools and is being run in partnership with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), a leading provider of governance education and development programs. The course has been tailored to the unique governance needs of Independent schools, providing participants with practical and relevant knowledge they can apply to their roles as directors.

This comprehensive online program consists of three distinct half-day modules delivered over 1.5 days:

• Duties and Responsibilities of the Not-for-Profit Director
• Strategy and Risk for the Not-for-Profit Director
• Finance for the Not-for-Profit Director

Learning outcomes include:

• Examine the duties and responsibilities of directors.
• Outline the role of the regulatory authorities.
• Compare the role of directors in NFP organisations with the role of directors in the commercial sector.
• Explain the role of the board in developing strategy.
• Establish the link between strategy and risk management, risk culture, and effective leadership.
• Explain the major elements of the financial statements and the linkages between the financial statements.
• Identify a director’s duties with regard to an organisation’s financial statements and financial reports.
• Discuss the board’s role in improving financial performance.

Participants will receive the standard AICD Governance Foundations for Not-for-Profit Directors program notes. Attendees should note that this course has been tailored to address the specific needs of school governing board members through its facilitation, education-specific scenarios and school financial case study.

**Please note that AICD will provide registered participants with access to the eNotes section of their MyLearning portal and send hard copy notes to the school approximately four weeks prior to the course.  Participants are strongly encouraged to login early and review the learning materials as there is approximately 9–15 hours of pre-reading required. It is expected that all participants will have read the course notes prior to attending.
