AISWA Languages Teachers' Stories

  • 2011 Youth Summit

The Leading in Languages Youth Summit brought together teams of students from schools across Western Australia to share their experiences learning Asian languages and to plan related projects in their schools.

It was Claire Leong's vision that created the Youth Summit in 2011. Always a student-centred educator, Claire wanted to give students the opportunity to develop an awareness of their Australasian identity  and how being Asia literate can transform them, their communities, and the region.

Students were inspired by quest speakers: Kathe Kirby, Alice Pung, Anna Rose and Nigel Oakey and learned from and collaborated with peers to investigate opportunites to engage with Asia.
