Description
A half-day seminar for Japanese native speaker assistants, providing tips for tutoring Year 11 and 12 students who are preparing for the WACE/ATAR practical examination.
The aims of the seminar include:
- Obtaining the basic knowledge of the WACE/ATAR courses and process of the practical exam
- Gaining tips for tutoring and practising with Year 11/12 students
- Discussing ways to improve the students’ results
This seminar is available for native speakers working across all sectors, as well as for the teachers who engage in private tutoring. Most of the seminar will be conducted in Japanese.
Presenter Kumiko Sue has had extensive experience tutoring and marking the practical examination since 2005.

Kate Reitzenstein (AISWA Staff)
Teaching And Learning Consultant - Languages
Kate Reitzenstein has worked as Consultant for Languages of the Association of Independent Schools of WA since 2014. She organises professional development activities and provides advice to schools and teachers on policy, curriculum and resources. Prior to this role, Kate worked as an Indonesian language teacher for fifteen years at three secondary schools, with experience using the Curriculum Framework and the Middle Years Program and Diploma Program of the International Baccalaureate curriculum. She has worked as an EFL/ESL teacher in Australia and abroad, and has had experience as an International Student Coordinator and at establishing overseas school partnerships and in-country study tours. Kate places importance on effective language teaching methodology and the need to link theory to practice in the Languages classroom.
Kumiko Sue
Presenter Kumiko Sue has had extensive experience tutoring and marking the practical examination since 2005. She recently presented the WACE oral examination tips at the conference of Japanese Language Teachers Association of WA (JLTAWA).
She currently works as a Japanese teacher at Presbyterian Ladies’ College (2006- ), formally at Applecross SHS (2003-2006). Studied in Japan and France. She had a business carrier in business in Switzerland and Thailand, before receiving the Grad. Dip. Ed. at UWA and becoming a teacher in Perth. Japanese native who fluently speaks English, French, German and Swiss German. Passionate in teaching Japanese, she is also interested in ICT use in the classroom and developing its resources.
