Funding Arrangements Announced for Independent Schools

The Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia (AISWA) welcomes the new funding arrangements announced by the Commonwealth Government which will provide an additional $2.2 billion over the four years 2018 to 2021. This is in addition to the $1.2 billion announced in last year's budget.

The changes will ensure all schools and states transition to an equal Commonwealth share of the schools resource standard over the next 10 years. This will provide a consistent funding allocation from the Commonwealth across all states, territories and school sectors. For Independent Schools this will mean the Commonwealth share rising from 77% to 80 %. This funding over time will be a truly needs based model and ensures consistency in the application of the model.

The appointment of Mr David Gonski AC to undertake a further review aimed at improving results for Australian students is also welcomed by AISWA.

AISWA looks forward to working with the Commonwealth through the consultation process leading up to implementation of this new model in 2018.
