LITERACY AND NUMERACY
OVERVIEW
The National Partnership Agreement on Literacy and Numeracy provides for a range of reforms that will deliver measurable and sustained improvements in literacy and numeracy for all students, but especially for those identified as falling behind.
Western Australia will implement evidence-based interventions that strengthen the State's investment in achieving accelerated and sustained improvements in literacy and numeracy learning outcomes for students.
The strategies will address the following key reform areas:
- Effective and evidence-based teaching of literacy and numeracy
- Strong school leadership and whole-school engagement with literacy and numeracy
- Monitoring student and school performance.
Australian Government funding, together with State co-investment, will support implementation, monitoring, reporting and agreed evaluation of these reforms. The National Partnership includes both Facilitation Payments, $14.65 million over two years, and Reward Payments, up to $34 million over an additional two-year period. Reward Payments are conditional on agreed targets being met.
