Description

Yr 7 - 10 New to Science Workshops- conducted as a joint venture between AISWA and CEWA. DoE teachers are also welcome.

This series of workshops is for teachers:

  • with a limited background in science, ie. tertiary education does not include all four science subjects - Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Space science and Physics
  • with less than 3 years teaching experience in lower secondary science
  • with limited or no pedagogical training in lower secondary science education
  • who are teaching years 7, 8, 9 and/or 10 science classes in 2018
     

Participants need to commit to:

  • actively participate in workshops
  • prepare for sessions by doing activities with their classes or in their own time
  • to present their findings and their work for the group discuss
  • share resources they may develop
  • be involved with any digital group discussions that may arise from the face-to-face meetings


Although this is planned as a series of workshops, participants may choose to attend a selection of the workshops on offer.

Desired outcomes:

  • to enhance the confidence, skills, and effectiveness of teachers new to teaching science in the lower secondary setting
  • to develop communities of teachers for the sharing of resources and ideas
  • to encourage teachers new to teaching science to continue

Tues 15 May 
Assessment writing for discriminating between and ranking of students
Assessment guidelines - using the Judging Standards

Planning for Semester 2
Review of Semester 1

Tues 18 Sept 
Assessments for Semester 2 - writing tasks and judging grades

Wed 28 Nov  
Review of 2018 year
Planning for 2019
